architecture
Exterior construction
The apse , built entirely from quarry stone masonry , shows the beginnings of structuring in the Lombard architectural style : there are three narrow windows between four pilaster strips . The south side of the simple nave of the church is not structured; the north side is covered by later chapel extensions. A two-part bell gable ( espadanya ) rises above the otherwise unadorned west facade . The portal was redesigned in the Renaissance style in 1639 and shows in the middle of a blown gable a relief plaque depicting the church patron Paulus of Tarsus .
Interior
The approximately 5.5 meter wide, 12.50 meter long and approximately 7.50 meter high pointed barrel vaulted church nave is now unplastered and shows rough quarry stone masonry; it was in 16./17. Century extended by side chapels. To the east there is a slightly drawn-in apse raised by a step, the upper part of which is plastered and painted with frescoes from the 13th century. These were only discovered in 1940 when an altarpiece was removed . The apse calotte , restored in 2003, shows a representation of Majestas Domini surrounded by the four evangelist symbols ; Below is a row of seats for the twelve apostles with Peter and Paul in the middle. Other - albeit poorly preserved - paintings show the 24 elders of the Apocalypse as well as scenes from the life of the apostle.
