Roger Muraro

Roger Muraro (born May 13, 1959 in Lyon ) is a French pianist and music teacher.

Life

Muraro had saxophone lessons in his childhood. At the age of 11 he entered the Lyon Conservatory where he switched to the piano. In 1977 he applied for admission to the Conservatoire de Paris , but did not pass the entrance exam. However, he became aware of Yvonne Loriod , Olivier Messiaen's wife , who accepted him into her class at the Conservatoire in 1978. He also received piano lessons from Éliane Richepin , who introduced him to the romantic piano repertoire.

In 1980 Muraro made his first public appearance as a pianist in Lyon. In 1986 he won fourth place at the International Tchaikovsky Competition . In 1988 he played Messiaens Vingt Regards de l'Enfant Jésus for the first time . In addition to Messiaen, whose entire piano works he recorded, composers such as Mozart , Chopin , Mussorgsky , Debussy and Albéniz are the focus of his repertoire.
