The canton of Vaugneray is a French constituency in the Rhône region of France in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It comprises 19 municipalities in the Arrondissement of Lyon and has its main town (French: bureau centralisateur ) in Vaugneray .

history
As a result of the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons, the canton of Vaugneray was enlarged in 2015, so it previously comprised the 14 municipalities of Brindas , Charbonnières-les-Bains , Courzieu , Craponne , Grézieu-la-Varenne , Marcy-l'Étoile , Messimy , Pollionnay , Saint -Genis-les-Ollières , Saint-Laurent-de-Vaux , Sainte-Consorce , Thurins , Vaugneray and Yzeron . Its layout corresponded to an area of 151.46 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6931.
Before the creation of the Métropole de Lyon on January 1, 2015, the canton belonged to the Arrondissement of Lyon . In addition, the municipality of Saint-Laurent-de-Vaux with 270 inhabitants on 2.64 km² (as of 2012) was dissolved at the same time and incorporated into Vaugneray. In February 2017, the parishes were transferred back to the original arrondissement.
