The District of Saint-Genis-Laval was 2015 a French canton in the arrondissement of Lyon and the region Rhône-Alpes . It originally belonged to the Rhône department and had its main town in Saint-Genis-Laval . The canton was abolished when, in the area of ​​Saint-Genis-Laval, the Métropole de Lyon replaced the Département Rhône as the higher-level regional authority at the turn of the year 2014/2015 and the cantons lost their function as constituencies. The other three municipalities, however, were assigned to the Arrondissement Villefranche-sur-Saône and remained in the Département Rhône. His last representative in the conseil général des Départements was Christophe Guilloteau ( UMP ), he succeeded Michel Thiers ( UDF , term of office 1982-2008).
