The Canton Thizy-les-bourgs is a French constituency in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It comprises 21 municipalities in the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and has its main town (French:  bureau centralisateur ) in Thizy-les-Bourgs . It was enlarged considerably in 2015 as a result of the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons.

history

The canton of Thizy-les-Bourgs, which was redesigned in 2015, expanded to include the cantons of Amplepuis and (mostly) Lamure-sur-Azergues . Before, it only included the four municipalities of Cours-la-Ville , Pont-Trambouze , Saint-Jean-la-Bussière and Thizy-les-Bourgs . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​83.46 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 6930.

The municipality of Thizy-les-Bourgs became on January 1, 2013 from the former municipalities of Bourg-de-Thizy (2627 inhabitants), La Chapelle-de-Mardore (212 inhabitants), Mardore (518 inhabitants), Marnand (617 inhabitants) and Thizy (2393 inhabitants, both as of 2010). This also changed the canton, which was only called Canton de Thizy before the municipal merger and was divided into eight instead of four municipalities in the same area.
