The Canton of Vaulx-en-Velin was 2015 a French canton in the arrondissement of Lyon and the region Rhône-Alpes . It originally belonged to the Rhône department and included the town of Vaulx-en-Velin . The canton was abolished when, at the turn of the year 2014/2015, the Métropole de Lyon replaced the Département Rhône as the superordinate regional authority of Vaulx-en-Velin and the cantons lost their function as constituencies. His last representative in the conseil général des Départements was Stéphane Gomez ( PS ), he succeeded Hélène Geoffroy (also PS, term of office 2004–2012).
