Marius Trésor (born January 15, 1950 in Sainte-Anne , Guadeloupe ) is a former French football player . He was elected to the FIFA 100 by Pelé in March 2004 .

Career

Trésor, who only came to France at the age of 19, initially played on the defensive left, and occasionally the right wing, but increasingly developed his qualities on the libero position. His professional career began in 1969 with AC Ajaccio ; then he played at Olympique Marseille (1972–1980) and Girondins Bordeaux (1980–1984) at the highest national level. With Marseille he won the French Cup in 1976 and the French championship with Bordeaux in 1984 . In 1972 he was named French Footballer of the Year .

Between December 1971 and November 1983 he played 65 internationals (eight for Ajaccio, 37 for Marseille and 20 for Bordeaux) in the national team and scored four goals, two of them (1973 and 1982) against Germany. He was in 25 games and team captain of the Équipe Tricolore and World Cup finalists in 1978 and 1982 (10 missions). In 1982 Trésor was also on the field in the dramatic semi-final against Germany and gave France the lead in extra time. Eventually France lost and finished fourth in the tournament. From 1983 to 1985 he was also the record French national player before Maxime Bossis overtook him.
