The SC Eendracht Aalst is a Belgian football club in Aalst . The club played in the top Belgian league for a long time .

history

Eendracht Aalst was founded in 1919 under the name Eendracht Aalst Voetbal Club after several local soccer clubs had to stop playing during the First World War and were not re-established after the end of the war due to insufficient membership. Four years later it was renamed Sport-Club Eendracht Aalst .

At first Eendracht Aalst played in East Flanders in the regional area. In 1932, the team rose to the third division for the first time, followed four years later by the promotion to the second division. Here, too, she quickly established herself at the front and rose to the First Division for the first time in 1939 . However, due to the Second World War , gaming operations came to a standstill. Therefore, it took until 1942 before the team could play their first first division game. The club surprised in the first year by occupying fifth place in the table, he played mainly against relegation in the following years. In 1947, the number of teams in the first division was reduced, so that Eendracht was relegated to the second division as third from bottom together with CS Vorst , White Star Woluwé , SK St. Niklaas and Club Bruges .

In 1951 the club was given a new name, as it was given the attribute "royal". From then on, the team took on as Koninklijke SC Eendracht Aalst . However, the success did not materialize and the team was relegated to the third division. Here she was playing for resurgence, but had to be patient until 1957. Again, it didn't take long for the club to play for a return to the top division. In 1960, the team won the second division championship by four points over Patro Eisden and played again in the first division. The first division stay lasted only two seasons before the club relegated as bottom of the table again. Again, it only took a short time before the relegation to third division was due.

1977 KSC Eendracht Aalst returned to the second division. First placed in the midfield of the league, the club qualified in 1981 as third in the table for the promotion round to the First Division. However, he missed the renewed return to the first class as second behind the KV Mechelen . After re-places in the middle, the club moved in 1986 and 1988 again in the promotion round, but the promotion was missed again. It was not until 1991 that the club was successful, but rose directly from bottom of the table.

In 1994 Eendracht Aalst rose again to the First Division and reached the UEFA Cup as a promoted player . Here, however, the club failed in the second round at AS Roma with 0: 4 and 0: 0. In the following years, however, the club was increasingly in danger of relegation. In 2000, however, the club reported back briefly in the front division and ended the season as seventh in the table. As a result, however, the club struggled with financial problems. After a few player sales, they managed to stay in the league in the following year, before relegation was due again in 2002 when they were second to last. The club then filed for bankruptcy.

Eendracht Aalst was passed through to the third division and re-established as VC Eendracht Aalst in 2002 after the bankruptcy proceedings. In 2012, the name was changed to Sportclub Eendracht Aalst and the team has been called SC Eendracht Aalst ever since .

In 2017/18 they played in the third class Eerste Amateur League and finished 8th.
