David Trezeguet (born October 15, 1977 in Rouen , France ) is a former French football player .

The world and European champions from 1998 and 2000 played for the Italian record champions Juventus Turin from 2000 to 2010 . His greatest strengths were the header game and his extreme coolness in front of the goal. Michel Platini once compared him to Paolo Rossi and nicknamed him Trezegol .

Career

The son of the Argentine soccer player Jorge Trezeguet grew up in Argentina and played as a teenager for the Club Atlético Platense , a club from Vicente López in the Buenos Aires area . In 1996 he became European champion with the French U-19 selection . He obtained French citizenship because of the origins of his great-great-grandfather. Then he moved to AS Monaco , where he made the breakthrough. In the first year he became French champion with his strike partner Thierry Henry at the time .

At the 1998 World Cup in France, Trezeguet was world champion with the French national team and defeated the record holder Brazil in the final . Trezeguet played six of the seven games and scored one goal.

Two years later, in 2000, he was signed by the Italian record champions Juventus Turin for around 22 million euros . That year he was also a European champion with France and scored the golden goal in the final against Italy for a 2-1 win. In the 2001/02 and 2002/03 seasons he won the Italian championship and the Supercoppa Italiana with Juventus . In 2002 Trezeguet was also named Footballer of the Year in Italy. In the 2002/03 season Trezeguet was with Juventus in the final of the Champions League against AC Milan and missed the first penalty there on penalties .

In 2006 Trezeguet took part in the World Cup in Germany. He scored once in the qualification, but was not part of the regular staff. He only started playing in the third group game. The next games he was not used and came in the 100th minute of the World Cup final against Italy on the field. In the penalty shootout, he was the only player to miss his penalty; the ball hit the lower edge of the crossbar and bounced back onto the field, giving Italy their fourth World Cup title.

The 2006/07 season he played with Juventus due to the manipulation scandal, was involved in the club in the Serie B . Despite the departure of many stars such as Gianluca Zambrotta , Fabio Cannavaro or Patrick Vieira , Trezeguet remained loyal to his club in the second division. He contributed 15 goals to the direct promotion, but received a contract extension until 2011 only on reduced terms.

In the 2007/08 season he scored 20 goals in Serie A and was second on the list of goalscorers behind his team-mate Alessandro Del Piero (21 goals). Despite this performance, he was not appointed by the French national coach Raymond Domenech in the France squad for the European Championship 2008 . After Domenech, despite the elimination of the Équipe Tricolore in the preliminary round , had been confirmed as national coach, Trezeguet resigned on July 9, 2008 from the national team.

In September 2008, Trezeguet had to undergo an operation on both knees after an injury sustained in the Champions League match against Zenit Saint Petersburg and was therefore on sideline for four months. In the 2009/10 season he played an important role in the team again after his long injury break and scored goals regularly.

On August 28, 2010, the contract between Trezeguet and Juventus Turin was terminated. Three days later, his move to the Spanish first division promoted Hércules Alicante was official, with whom he signed a two-year contract.

On August 30, 2011 Trezeguet moved to Abu Dhabi to club Baniyas SC . Because of a protracted knee injury, he reached an agreement with the club in November to terminate his contract.

On December 16, 2011 Trezeguet moved to the Argentine second division club CA River Plate . He has a strong connection to this club, as he grew up in a suburb of Buenos Aires . In his first season he managed with his club the direct return to Argentina's elite class . During his time at River Plate, he scored 17 goals in 38 games, but has not been able to play a game since March 2013 due to a knee injury and was eliminated.

On July 22, 2013, he signed a one-year contract with the Argentine first division club Newell's Old Boys . In the summer of 2014 Trezeguet moved to India for FC Pune City . He ended his career in January 2015.
