Lionel André Michel Charbonnier (born October 25, 1966 in Poitiers ) is a French football coach and former football player. He played in the position of goalkeeper .

Charbonnier has played for AJ Auxerre since 1987 , with whom he became French champions and cup winners in the 1995/96 season . After a total of eleven seasons at Auxerre, he moved to the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland in 1998 . There he won in his first season (1998/99) the triple of Championship , League Cup and FA Cup . In 2001 Charbonnier moved to Switzerland and played one more season with FC Lausanne before ending his active career.

Charbonnier has been called up to the French national team 32 times, but was only used once (1997). He was also part of the French squad at the 1998 home World Cup and became world champion without having played a single game.

After his active career, Charbonnier began working as a coach and manager in 2002, both for club and national teams.
