Patrick Müller (born December 17, 1976 in Geneva , Switzerland ) is a former Swiss football player .
Career
Patrick Müller played in the position of central defender . Together with Johann Vogel he played in the youth team of FC Meyrin . His first two seasons as a professional Müller was under contract with Servette Geneva . After another year in Switzerland with Grasshoppers in Zurich , he finally moved abroad to Ligue 1 , the top French division. With the top club Olympique Lyon , Müller was at the height of his career. As team captain , he won the French championship twice with his club and was runner-up once. Then he moved to the Spanish Primera División to RCD Mallorca , where he was hardly used. From January 1, 2005 to mid-January 2006, Müller was under contract with FC Basel before moving back to Olympique Lyon and winning the French championship there again.
Patrick Müller was a Swiss national player . Since his debut on April 22, 1998 against Northern Ireland , he has completed 81 international matches, scoring three goals.
In early December 2007, at the Olympique Lyon game against Besançon, Müller suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee. After a five-month injury break, he made his comeback in early May 2008 for the Lyon reserve team. Despite this long break, he was nominated for Switzerland's selection for the 2008 European Championship .
In the summer of 2008, Müller moved from Lyon to AS Monaco on a free transfer, but after a few missions he was no longer considered for the first team. He played his last game in spring 2009. After his contract ended in the 2009/10 season, he resigned from professional football.
