geography

Geographical location

View of Rottelsdorf from Bösenburg

Rottelsdorf is the southernmost district of the city of Gerbstedt. It is located approx. 11 km northeast of Eisleben and 7 km south of the main town Gerbstedt in the Mansfelder Platte landscape in the middle part of a cut that continues west towards Bösenburg . To the east of the village it branches out into different branches. The village square and the village church of St. Simon and Judas are located directly on the Fleischgraben stream flowing through the cut in the center of the village . From the point at the pond on the western edge of the village, the Fleischgraben sank noticeably into the subsoil, so that there are steep slopes towards Bösenburg. There is a larger wind farm between Rottelsdorf and Beesenstedt in the east. A few kilometers to the northeast, the terrain slopes down to the Saale valley .

history

The village church of St. Simon and Judas in Rottelsdorf

Rottelsdorf is an old farming village. It was probably founded during the Frankish settlement phase in the 8th or 9th century. Later the village belonged to the office of Helmsdorf .

Rottelsdorf was mentioned in a document in 1273 when Counts Burchard IV and Gebhard I von Mansfeld gave the Hersfeld monastery patronage over the church of St. Simon and Judas in the village.

When the county of Mansfeld was divided in 1501, Rottelsdorf came to the Hinterort Mansfeld.

In 1588 the plague in Rottelsdorf claimed 47 lives. There were further outbreaks in 1611 and 1626. Rottelsdorf was spared the last great plague wave in the region in 1681.

The tradition of the parish registers of Rottelsdorf begins in 1590. During the Thirty Years War there is a longer gap in these writings. After the war the village fell desolate for 16 years, but was then repopulated again.

In 1709 almost the entire village burned down. Only the church of St. Simon and Jude could be saved.

On the railway line Halle Klaustor – Hettstedt , which passed south of Rottelsdorf , there was a stop and a connection with the railway to Hettstedt in the west and Halle (Saale) in the east from 1896 to 1968 . South of Rottelsdorf, this route is still visible on an earth wall next to the country road between Beesenstedt and Polleben .

On January 1, 2010 the communities of Rottelsdorf, Augsdorf , Friedeburgerhütte , Hübitz , Ihlewitz , Siersleben , Welfesholz and Zabenstedt merged with the city of Gerbstedt to form the new city of Gerbstedt . The Gerbstedt administrative community , to which Rottelsdorf belonged, was dissolved.
