Helmsdorf (Gerbstedt)
Helmsdorf is a district of the locality Heiligenthal and a village in the municipality Gerbstedt in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany .
geography
Helmsdorf is located on the northern slope of the valley of the small river Schlenze coming from Polleben , approx. 3 kilometers south of Gerbstedt , 9 km southeast of Hettstedt and 10 km northeast of Lutherstadt Eisleben . The hilly, low low mountain range plateau of the Mansfelder Platte extends around this valley . Such a hill is the Sehringberg in the south, between the village and this hill there is a forest. To the west of Helmsdorf lies the large copper slate dump of the Otto Brosowski shaft , past it flows the Rüsterbach coming from Siersleben , which flows into the Schlenze not far from the town in the south.
history
The landscape around Helmsdorf has been settled for a long time, there are many finds, for example a stone cross west of the village and a princely grave from the Aunjetitz culture on the Sehringsberg.
According to Cyriacus Spangenberg , Helmsdorf was a large village before the Battle of Welfesholz around 1115. In the first documentary mention it was called Helmerikesdorp , which means something like Helmerich's village . Later it became a Vorwerk for the Counts of Mansfeld- Hinterort.
building
Helmsdorf Castle was built between 1801 and 1805 by the later District Administrator Wilhelm von Kerssenbrock and expanded in 1910 based on a design by the architect Paul Schultze-Naumburg . It is currently uninhabited. The Klopstock linden tree is in the adjacent park.
