Location of Siersleben in Gerbstedt

Siersleben is a district of the city of Gerbstedt in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz around nine kilometers north of Lutherstadt Eisleben and around five kilometers south of Hettstedt . Siersleben is also referred to, together with Thondorf , Hübitz and Augsdorf , as the Griftdörfer or as the villages on the Griftbach .

geography

The pond in Teichstrasse

Siersleben lies 209 m above sea level in the middle of the Mansfelder Platte , a flat landscape that slopes down to the Eisleben depression in the south . In the east it is bounded by the Saale valley and in the northwest by the valley of the Wipper . Further to the north-west, the terrain rises to the eastern Harz foreland .

The landscape around Siersleben is dominated by the large mining heaps Thälmann and Brosowski, mainly rapeseed and grain fields. There are also smaller forests such as the Welfesholz in the north and the Regenbeck on the border with Hettstedt in the northwest. With good visibility you can see the Petersberg in the east . The highest place in the landscape around Siersleben is the 240 m high Sickberg west of Thondorf, which, however, is hardly noticeable. To the north of the village, the Sohlbach, which dried up from 1826, formed the Kreuzgrund. One of the source brooks of this body of water rises directly on the northern edge of Siersleben. On the other hand, the Wickengraben, which is usually dried out, flows from the Thondorf location one kilometer to the west during heavy rain events . Its confluence with the village pond Siersleben was built over and piped. Various frog species and ducks live in the reed-covered, currently silting village pond in the center of Siersleben; Local residents also claim to have seen muskrats. The pond is drained by the Rüsterbach , which flows to Augsdorf in the east.

Scenic features

  • On Siersleber village pond grows wall-rue .
  • To the east of the road to Welfesholz in Kreuzgrund is the steam hole in which archaeological finds were made.
  • In the landscape between Siersleben and Gerbstedt several desert areas can be found, e.g. B. Nienstedt or Dankendorf .

Local division

The two villages of Siersleben and Thondorf as well as the Siersleben station residential area belong to the Gerbstedter village of Siersleben.

history

The origin of the place probably goes back to a settlement of the early Bronze Age . The oldest find, however, is a Middle Neolithic clay drum in the Apfelborn corridor, as well as many grave finds in the immediate vicinity of today's location. However, the first finds in the locality (450 m southeast of the church) could only be dated to around 650 AD, with graves facing north-south and east-west.

In addition to other settlements, King Otto III. on January 6, 992, the place Sigerslevo to the Imperial Abbey of Quedlinburg , with the stipulation that the proceeds of the collegiate church Walbeck (or the monastery) flow. This founded a monastery courtyard in Siersleben, which was secularized in the course of the Reformation . As the Vorwerk of the Counts of Mansfeld- Vorort and after several other changes of ownership, the later estate finally came into the hands of Wilhelm von Humboldt . He had a summer residence (the Humboldtschlößchen; today the seat of the Mansfeld Museum) in the neighboring Altdorf (today a part of the city of Hettstedt). It can be assumed that Siersleben existed for 600 years at the time of the first documentary mention.

The oldest core of Siersleben (around 300 AD) is located north of the Andreas Church, along the Ristebach, today's Teichstrasse. It had the shape of a round , in the middle a pond was created at the source of the Risterbach, which still exists today. The village was laid out on a large scale, and community areas such as cow pastures were included very early on. The road network at that time consisted of a path coming from the east, which led around the village pond and then left the place to the east. The first extensions took place north of the Rundling, a sack-shaped settlement was created along a new Angers. Then a field was laid to the west of the village on what is now Schulstrasse; several gardens that existed until the 19th century were previously cultivated here. A further expansion of the place took place later, the Pfingstanger (today Augsdorfer Straße) was created south of the place. A manor (the later monastery courtyard) was built here.

Due to the sinking of the copper slate pits Glückhilf and Niewandt, new settlement houses were built at the end of the 19th century between the road and the footpath to Thondorf on the one hand and between the roads to Hettstedt and Welfesholz on the other.

The Second World War ended without bloodshed for Siersleben; on April 13, 1945, 132 years after the last time, it was occupied by foreign troops. The place had been surrounded by American tanks from the west and south, as the Americans suspected they would encounter a strong defense. The airspace had also previously been secured by fighters from the United States Air Force . Around 10 a.m., a jeep with two American officers came from the direction of Eisleben. After they shot a window pane with two shots, they went to the Fleischhauer inn and drank a beer . Then they drove back to Eisleben. Around one o'clock in the afternoon, motorized troops and tanks advanced from two directions, from Thondorf and Eisleben, which were watched by the population, but also moved on straight away. The troops from Thondorf moved to Sandersleben and those from Eisleben to Heiligenthal and Gerbstedt. There were no riots in the village between the soldiers and the population.

Siersleben was a municipality in the Mansfeld mountain district until 1945 and then went to the Eisleben district in 1949 . On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Thondorf was incorporated. Around 1994 Siersleben came into the administrative community Mansfelder Platte of the newly founded district of Mansfelder Land . This was then dissolved in 2005, Siersleben now came to the Gerbstedt administrative community . In 2007 the district of Mansfelder Land and the district of Sangerhausen merged to form the district of Mansfeld-Südharz. On January 1, 2010, the communities of Siersleben, Augsdorf, Friedeburgerhütte , Hübitz, Ihlewitz , Rottelsdorf , Welfesholz and Zabenstedt merged with the city of Gerbstedt to form the new city of Gerbstedt. The Gerbstedt administrative community, to which Siersleben belonged, was dissolved.

After incorporation of the previously independent municipality of Siersleben, Siersleben and Thondorf were each part of the city of Gerbstedt and thus the local constitution according to §§ 86 ff. Of the municipal code of Saxony-Anhalt was introduced for these districts as well . Furthermore, some streets were renamed after the incorporation and some of them were combined.

Surname

The suffix -leben suggests that it is an old Thuringian settlement. As a forerunner of the name Siersleben itself, the name Sigihersleiba ( Sigiher's home) emerged in the early Middle Ages . King Otto III was mentioned on January 6, 992. the place as Sigerslevo . The thesis that the name comes from the time of the Battle of the Welfesholz in 1115 and means “Look, live here!” Is wrong.

Population development

The population of Siersleben increased sharply during the heyday of the mining industry in the Mansfeld region . After the collapse of the mines in the 1960s, a long and severe population decline began.

Economy and Infrastructure

Commercial areas

Siersleben shares the Apfelborn industrial area with the other Griftdörfern Hübitz, Augsdorf and Thondorf. It is located south of the village.

traffic

The most important intersection of Siersleben

Various regional roads meet at the crossroads in the middle of the village (junction 048). Cross the state road 72 coming from Eisleben and in the direction of Sandersleben and the district road 2321 coming from Klostermansfeld, which shares the route with the L72 up to junction 019 east of the village and then joins the state road 151 in Helmsdorf , the intersection and the place. The local road to the northwest of Hettstedt also begins its route at the intersection. Immediately to the southeast of this point is one of the bus stops in the village. Until July 31, 2009, the federal highway 180 also ran through the intersection and through the village. However, when the new Hettstedt bypass was released, it was moved to a new route further west and the B180 was downgraded to the L72. Smaller roads also lead from the village to Hübitz, Augsdorf and Thondorf. There is also a cycle path between Siersleben and its district Thondorf, which runs parallel to the dried up Wickengraben brook . Finally, a network of smaller dirt roads and slopes connects the Siersleben with the surrounding villages.

Trains no longer stop at the Siersleben stop on the Berlin – Blankenheim railway line, 1 km north of the town center . The nearest Deutsche Bahn (DB) stations are Klostermansfeld and Hettstedt, from which trains depart every hour in the direction of Magdeburg and Erfurt . The Mansfeld mine railway maintains a stop in Siersleben.

Motorway junctions in the area are Plötzkau on federal motorway 14 in the northeast and Lutherstadt Eisleben on federal motorway 38 in the south.

education

The Siersleben primary school is located next to the Protestant church on Augsdorfer Straße and is currently attended by around 60 students. The school building itself has four floors plus a basement, the school grounds are divided into a large school yard with play equipment and the school garden. Both take it in equal parts. A gym is 100 meters away. Due to the fact that the minimum number of pupils stipulated by the state has only just been reached, the school has been threatened with closure for years.

The secondary school of Siersleben was located next to the primary school until the early 2000s. Due to a lack of students, however, this has already been closed and the remaining students retrained in the secondary schools in the area.

Sports facilities

The sports hall of Siersleben, in the white house in front of it there are the changing rooms.

The village's sports field exists on the south-eastern edge of the village. It is made up of a soccer field , which is surrounded by a 400 m long running track. There is a smaller grandstand to the north and a few small practice areas to the west. The entire area is lined with large poplars , some of which were felled due to rot. Siersleben had an older, smaller sports field, this was on the eastern edge of the village and is now used as a cow pasture. The old bowling alley in Teichstrasse is also no longer recognizable, the property is now used as a garden.

Religions

The steeple of St. Andrew's Church during a thunderstorm

The village church of St. Andreas and the rectory on Teichstrasse belong to the Protestant community, the smaller church on the western edge of the village to the Catholic parish.
