The small village church of Elben (St. Johannes)

Elben is a village in the Freist district of the city of Gerbstedt in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz in Saxony-Anhalt , Germany . The village is located in the Fleischbach valley at a geographical altitude of 113 m above sea level, on the road from Freist to Bösenburg , 6 kilometers south of Gerbstedt.

history

The place is of Wendish origin, the place name comes from Ilovopolje , which means something like clayey, muddy field . Johann Christoph Schulze, who was pastor of Freist from 1770 to 1789, wrote reports about Elben and its surroundings, including the Bierberg near the church, which housed an old hill fort. But this has been severely canceled out over time. South of Elben on the corridor border to Bösenburg, the location of a submerged village is assumed, which was mentioned in 992 as Husiani . The hallway is now called the pants . Altogether there were three water mills in Elben that were powered by the Fleischbach. Elben was incorporated into the community of Freist on July 1, 1950, until January 24, 2010 Elben belonged to it and after their incorporation became part of the Gerbstedter village of Freist.
