Location of Ihlewitz in Gerbstedt
St. Stephan in Ihlewitz

Ihlewitz is a district of the city of Gerbstedt and is located approx. 18 km northeast of Lutherstadt Eisleben . In addition to the main town of Ihlewitz, the districts of Pfeiffhausen, Strausshof and Thaldorf also belong to the village of Ihlewitz.

geography

The village is on a plateau near the Halle-Hettstedter mountain bridge . Even Erich Neuss recognized in the 1930s, the extensive view of Anhalt and also about the Schlenzetal further south. In this plateau, the village itself lies in a hollow, which first runs east, but then turns west and becomes Thaldorfer Grund. In heavy rain and after the snow has melted, a stream flows through this hollow from Ihlewitz, but it is usually just a dry ditch. To the west of Ihlewitz there are many wind turbines, the wind farm there extends to Gerbstedt . The village is surrounded by fields on all sides and the landscape is mostly flat, except for the hollow and the few hills called Langer Hu (towards Gerbstedt) or Grübischer Berg (towards Zellwitz). A steep incision is only the Thaldorfer Grund, in which a stream flows permanently to the west. It crosses the villages of Thaldorf and Pfeiffhausen, which belong to Ihlewitz, and then turns south. There it leaves the Ihlewitz area and still flows through the neighboring village of Friedeburgerhütte , where it flows into the Schlenze stream . The landscape around Ihlewitz is rich in desertification , such as Melsingen, Unter- and Oberpolingen in the north and Strossen in the south.

history

There were once three prehistoric burial mounds on top 163.1. In 1300 Ihlewitz is mentioned for the first time with its St. Stephan church, Prince Bernhard von Anhalt gave his village Ylewycz with the patronage of the church to the Abbess of Quedlinburg . Around 1534 Ihlewitz was sold to Count Hoyer von Mansfeld for 415 guilders by Prince Wolfgang von Anhalt . It was not until 1542 that Ihlewitz was no longer ecclesiastically administered from the Anhalt town of Unterwiederstedt . However, since in 1545 the villages of Ihlewitz, Pfeiffhausen, Thaldorf and Adendorf had no pastors, the church's visitors suggested that the four villages should share one pastor. A parsonage was built for this in Ihlewitz. During the Thirty Years' War Ihlewitz was cremated by imperial troops, only two farmers lived in the ruins and had to sell the church bell out of poverty. But after the war they replaced them again. A new church tower made of Rotliegend was built, but it quickly deteriorated. The community's cemetery is on a slightly raised platform, but this was once reduced in size so that bones and coffin remains protruded from the new edge. Some of the coffins were cut halfway through. Today, however, it is no longer possible to tell on which side this happened. On January 1, 2010, the communities of Ihlewitz, Augsdorf , Friedeburgerhütte , Hübitz , Rottelsdorf , Siersleben , Welfesholz and Zabenstedt merged with the city of Gerbstedt to form the new city of Gerbstedt . The Gerbstedt administrative community , to which Ihlewitz belonged, was dissolved.

Attractions

The Protestant Church of St. Wenzel in the neighboring village of Thaldorf, built in the middle of the 12th century, with the well-fortified, well-preserved tower and late Romanesque features. It contains a crypt with an ancestor of the Russian tsarina Catherine the Great . The St. Stephen's Church is in Ihlewitz itself; this is centrally located and consists of reddish stones.
