geography

Geographical location

Welfesholz is about 4 km east of Hettstedt and 14 km north of Eisleben at the intersection of the L72 and L158. The Welfesholz (a small forest) borders directly to the west. The meanwhile closed railway line Halle Klaustor – Hettstedt touches the place in the south. A ditch that has recently fallen dry and which once carried water begins in the village. It continues further west towards Hettstedt. The Rote Welle creek north of Welfesholz still flows. Halfway between Welfesholz and Sandersleben on its course was the desert of Rote Welle . Southeast of the local situation is the not very deep war -Grund here means war border. The Sohlbach, which dried up in 1826, flowed through it. In another deepening southeast of the village lies the Nisselsdorf desert .

Monuments

There are several unusual stones in Welfesholz and the surrounding area. At the northern exit of the village stands the Welfesholz stone cross from the Middle Ages . The Feldpredigerstein stands on the road to Gerbstedt. Also to be mentioned is the so-called Vergewhrene Stein , a possible menhir and nail stone , medium-sized and free-standing, next to a hunter's stand in a field northwest of the village, as well as the Lochige Stein . The Welfesholz chapel, which was built around 1900, is located in the village .

history

In the battle of the Welfesholz on February 11, 1115 there was a dispute between imperial and Saxon troops, which the Saxons won.

On January 1, 2010, the municipalities of Welfesholz, Augsdorf , Friedeburgerhütte , Hübitz , Ihlewitz , Rottelsdorf , Siersleben and Zabenstedt merged with the city of Gerbstedt to form the new city of Gerbstedt . The Gerbstedt administrative community , to which Welfesholz belonged, was dissolved.

When streets were renamed in many localities of the new town of Gerbstedt after the incorporation, so that no more double street names would appear in different localities, the only street in Welfesholz kept its name Dorfstraße .

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture is the economic basis of the village.

traffic

Welfesholz is connected by country roads to Sandersleben in the north, Gerbstedt in the east and Siersleben in the south. The next train station in Hettstedt is 4 km to the west via another country road.
