Johann Walleshauser

Johann Evangelist Walleshauser also Wallishauser , Wellesberger , stage name Giovanni Valesi , with different spellings like Walesi or Vallesi , (born April 28, 1735 in Hattenhofen ; † January 10, 1816 in Munich ) was a German opera singer ( tenor ) and singing teacher .

Life

The son of the sacristan Melchior Walleshauser was very musical even as a boy. The pastor of Günzlhofen at that time, Count Max von Valvasoni, recognized the talent and had him trained in music and singing with Placidus von Camerloher in Freising. From 1754 he was in the service of the Prince-Bishop in Freising . In 1755 Walleshauser sang in Amsterdam , Liège , Brussels and Nancy . In 1756 he was electoral Bavarian court and chamber singer and made his debut as an opera singer in Munich in 1757 . In 1757 he continued his education with the support of the Bavarian Elector in Italy and in the following five years he performed successfully at numerous Italian opera stages and was also active as a singing teacher. From Venice he returned to Munich in 1776 as "Giovanni Valesi", made guest appearances in Prague , Dresden , Weimar and Berlin in 1777 and in 1781 took over the role of "Gran Sacerdote" in the Munich premiere of Mozart's Idomeneo . In 1798 he left the stage in Munich and since then has worked as a singing teacher.
