Placidus Cajetanus Laurentius von Camerloher (born August 9, 1718 in Murnau am Staffelsee , † July 21, 1782 in Freising ) was a German composer .

Life

Camerloher was born the son of a court clerk. He first attended the knight academy in Ettal , where one began to promote his musical talent. After graduating from school, Camerloher began studying theology in Freising and was finally ordained a priest in 1744.

Prince-Bishop Johann Theodor von Bayern made Camerloher his Kapellmeister in Freising. In 1748 he was canon at the St. Veit Abbey in Freising and in 1753 took over the Kanonekat at the St. Andreas Abbey in Freising. After Johann Theodor took over the diocese of Liège in 1744 , Camerloher also became chamber music director there and accompanied the prince-bishop on numerous trips.

Camerloher died at the age of 63. He was buried under the organ in the now demolished St. Andreas Church in Freising . Streets in Ismaning and Freising are named after him, as is the musical Camerloher grammar school in Freising. A Camerloher Music School eV was founded in Murnau in 1964 by the composer and pedagogue Fritz Rabl.
