Bruno Cheyrou (born May 10, 1978 in Suresnes ) is a French sports presenter and former professional football player .
Life
Career
As a teenager and later as an amateur player, Cheyrou was with the clubs RC Paris (1986-1994), RC Lens (Am.) (1994-1997) and one year at OSC Lille , before he joined the professional team of the OSC in 1998. On October 24, 1998, he made his second division debut for Lille. From 1999, his brother Benoît was also active in Lille's first team. In 2000 he was promoted to Division 1 with his club and gradually aroused the interest of various European clubs.
In 2002 he moved to Liverpool FC in the English Premier League for £ 4.5 million . Shortly after his move, he made his debut for the French national team on August 21, 2002 . Until his last appointment in 2004, he had a total of three international matches. Cheyrou, who was referred to as the "new Zinédine Zidane " by Liverpool's French coach Gérard Houllier , could not meet the high expectations at Liverpool FC. After 31 league games (two goals) from 2002 to 2004, Cheyrou was awarded to Olympique Marseille in 2004/05 and Girondins Bordeaux in 2005/06 . In 2006 he moved to Stade Rennes . There he played for three and a half years. In his first season he reached third place with Rennes in Ligue 1 , which meant the best placement of all time in this league and participation in the UEFA Cup . In January 2010 he went to the Cypriot first division club Anorthosis Famagusta . After half a year he returned to France, where he has since played for the second division club FC Nantes . His contract, which expired in the summer of 2012, was not extended, so that he finally ended his professional career.
Since 2014 he has played for the amateur team of AC de Boulogne-Billancourt, with whom he won the CFA 2 championship (the fifth French league) in 2015.
Private
After his career as a professional footballer, Cheyrou began commentating on football matches for the French television channel beIN Sports in 2012. He is the brother of the football player Benoît Cheyrou .
