Benoît Cheyrou (born May 3, 1981 in Suresnes ) is a former French football player .

Career

During the 1999/2000 season, the central midfielder played his first professional appearances in Ligue 2 at Lille OSC alongside his brother Bruno Cheyrou . Due to the rise of his club a year later, he was also able to look forward to his first appearances in Ligue 1 . In his third year with the Northern French, he was also a regular player for the first time and even played four games in the UEFA Champions League . In the next two years, Benoît Cheyrou became more and more a top performer and finally moved to AJ Auxerre before the 2004/05 season , as Lille could no longer qualify for an international competition.

He spent three years at AJ Auxerre as one of the pillars of the team and always took part in the UEFA Cup . In June 2007 he signed a four-year contract with runner-up Olympique Marseille, where he has the opportunity to participate in the UEFA Champions League. The transfer was about five million euros.

In January 2015, he moved to Toronto FC from Major League Soccer , where he ended his career at the end of the 2017 season.
