history

The Kuban was built on a wasteland near the Karasun River as an athletics stadium and officially opened on October 30, 1960. On May 14, 1961, the championship game Spartak Krasnodar against Spartak Stavropol was the first football match in the stadium. At that time it had a capacity of 20,000 spectators, with all the seats being standing, which, however, was achieved in 2001 with the conversion of the standing seats in the main and opposite stands to seats and the construction of two additional tiers above the existing tiers of the main and opposite stands the opposite stand rose to 36,800. During the renovation, floodlight masts with 1,850 lux illuminance , 50 VIP seats, 510 business seats and 35 journalist seats were set up.

This renovation made the Kuban one of the most modern stadiums in Russia, even if the stadium is not covered. The official capacity of the Kuban, however, was not 36,800, but 28,800, whereby all seats were seats, as the two standing stands behind the gates, which were not renovated, were no longer used and 8,000 seats were lost.

A new stadium with 45,000 seats was planned for the 2018 World Cup . Krasnodar was removed from the provisional list of World Cup venues alongside Yaroslavl .
