Footballer of the Year in Mexico

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Mexico , the soccer championship is played in the Primera División in two half-yearly, independent competitions. These are called Apertura and Clausura . The Clausura takes place from January to July, the Apertura from August to December. The two seasons used to be called invierno and verano (winter and summer).

Accordingly, there is also the award for Footballer of the Year twice a year. In addition, the best goalkeeper and the best young player are honored. Prior to 1997, the awards were given for a full year, in 2001/02 there were no awards because those responsible forgot to host an election.
