The Große Lychensee is the second lowest lake in the course of the Havel tributary Lychener Gewässer and one of the seven lakes of the Lychener Seenkreuz in northeast Brandenburg . The lake belongs to the Uckermärkische Seenlandschaft and is located in the Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park .

The body of water is strongly structured and has several distinctive bays. The lakeshore is almost completely wooded. There are three larger islands in the lake: Fischers Werder , Langes Werder and Hohes Werder . The lake has the bathing water status EG bathing lake . Fishing is only allowed with a fishing license. The summer visibility is 1 to 1.5 meters. In the north, the Fürstenberg / Havel trolley to Lychen leads past the lake. There is a lido in the Lychen urban area.
The lime-rich, stratified lake has a relatively large catchment area of 17.568 km². It is 2.9 kilometers long and 2.1 kilometers wide. The lake receives its inflow in the northeast from Lychener Stadtsee , its outflow is the Woblitz , the lowest section of Lychener waters, which connects it to the upper Havel via the Himmelpforter Haussee .
The Große Lychensee is part of the Federal Waterway Lychener Gewässer (LyG) of waterway class I, a side water of the Upper Havel waterway (OHW). The Eberswalde Waterways and Shipping Office is responsible .
Flora and fauna
The main fish species are eel, perch, pike, pikeperch and tench. The woodruff beech forests of the Himmelpfort Heath can be found on the southern peninsula .
