Mario Méndez Olague (born June 1, 1979 in Guadalajara ) is a retired Mexican soccer player .

At the age of 19 Méndez made his debut with his hometown club Atlas Guadalajara in the Mexican first division and was immediately a regular. He remained loyal to the club for six years and almost 200 league games before moving to Deportivo Toluca in 2004 . The following year he became a master in the aperture , but it was the first year in which he was no longer part of the first team. And so in 2005 he was loaned to CF Monterrey . From the 2006 season he will play for the UANL Tigres .

As a national player, he had his first major tournament in 1999 in the youth team at the U21 World Cup in Nigeria and reached the quarter-finals. On January 9, 2000 he made his debut in the senior team . Mario Méndez played a total of 37 times for the national team until 2008, he was in the squad when he won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2003, played in 4 of the 5 Confed Cup games in 2005 and in 7 games in the qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where he was part of the Mexican World Cup squad and - with the exception of the last 13 minutes in the third round match against Portugal - played all games over the full distance.
