Humberto Andrés Suazo Pontivo (born May 10, 1981 in San Antonio , Chile ) is a Chilean football player ( striker ) who is currently under contract with CF Monterrey in Mexico .
youth
At the age of six, Suazo was taken to youth training at Club Torino in his hometown of San Antonio by his father. Suazo's father used to be an active player there himself.
In December 1995, Suazo completed a trial training at the youth department of the first division club Universidad Católica and was accepted into its youth program in March of the following year. Over time, Suazo, who often left the club's boarding school to return to San Antonio, said he did not make full use of the opportunities the club gave him. He was considered lazy to train.
Career
society
In 2000 Universidad Católica Suazo loaned out to the second division CD Ñublense , as he was considered undisciplined at Universidad Católica. He made his professional debut against CD Magallanes , a club he would later play for himself. In his first game he scored a goal. At the end of the year he broke his shin and was out for seven months. This injury also prevented his participation in the 2001 World Youth Championship.
After his contract with Universidad Católica expired in 2001, Suazo switched to CD Magallanes. In 2002 he joined San Antonio Unido from his hometown. In 2003 he finally played for the third division club San Luis Quillota , for whom he scored 40 goals in one season.
In 2004 and 2005, Suazo then played for the first division club Audax Italiano . At the beginning of 2004 he suffered another serious injury that put him out of action for a long time. Still, he scored a total of 17 goals for Audax before moving to Colo Colo Santiago in 2006 . Here he made his first international appearance shortly after his move in the qualifying round of the Copa Libertadores 2006 against Deportivo Guadalajara . Although Colo Colo could not qualify for the main round, Suazo drew attention with a hat trick in the second leg.
In the Chilean league , Suazo was the top scorer of the 2006 Apertura season with 12 goals in 14 regular season games (together with Juan Quiroga) and with his team Chilean champions. In the parallel international competition for the Copa Sudamericana 2006 , Suazo was also the top scorer with 10 goals. In the quarterfinals against Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata , he scored another hat trick. Colo Colo reached the final of the competition, but was defeated by the CF Pachuca . In the Clausura tournament (the second half of the season) Suazo scored 15 goals and thus contributed significantly to the renewed championship, including two goals in the final against his former club Audax.
After rumors about a move to Mexico and Italy arose during the season break at the end of 2006, Colo Colo acquired the remaining portion of Suazo's transfer rights, which had been with Audax Italiano.
In the 2007 Apertura tournament, Suazo was again the top scorer, this time with 18 goals. and helped his team to the 27th championship in the club's history. In the 2007 Copa Libertadores , Suazo scored five goals in seven games, helping to win the group in the preliminary round and reaching the quarter-finals, in which his team was defeated by Club America from Mexico.
Overall, Suazo scored 52 goals in 54 regular and final games of the Chilean league for Colo Colo. There were also eight goals in nine games of the Copa Libertadores and ten goals in twelve games of the Copa Sudamericana .
Suazo's contract expired in June 2007. He eventually moved to CF Monterrey in Mexico for a $ 5 million transfer fee , one of the highest transfer fees of all time for a Chilean player moving abroad. There he played until January 2010. On January 8, the Spanish first division club Real Saragossa announced the commitment of Suazo. His contract ran until the end of the 2009/10 season. The club had a purchase option on the player, which he did not withdraw, so that Suazo returned to CF Monterrey in Mexico. With the club he won the CONCACAF Champions League in 2011, 2012 and 2013 .
National team
Suazo made his debut for the Chilean national team in a friendly against Ecuador on February 9, 2005 when he came on for Mark González in the 82nd minute . Since then, until July 15, 2010, he has played 42 international matches, in which he has scored 18 goals so far, the first on August 16, 2006 in a friendly against Colombia (1: 2). In qualifying for the World Cup in 2010 , he was the top scorer in the elimination of South America with 10 goals .
