Soccer
The club is known far beyond the borders of Chile mainly because of its professional football team. This plays its home games in the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo , which has 20,000 seats. Universidad Católica is one of the most successful football clubs in the country and has won 14 championship titles since 1949.
There are over 20 appearances in the Copa Libertadores . UC reached the semi-finals five times: 1962 against FC Santos , 1966 against Peñarol Montevideo , 1969 against Estudiantes de La Plata and 1984 against Independiente from Argentina.
UC achieved their greatest international success in 1993, when the team was only defeated by São Paulo FC in the final . Since he waived the right to start in the Copa Interamericana , UC was allowed to play as a representative against Deportivo Saprissa from Costa Rica - and won the title.
