Jorge Campos Navarrete (born October 15, 1966 in Acapulco , Guerrero ) is one of the most famous Mexican football players of the 1990s. He was actually a goalkeeper , but he also played as a striker from time to time , which contributed a lot to his fame. He scored 38 goals in the course of his career. Despite his small height of 1.68 m, he always showed good control of the penalty area and excellent reflexes.
Career

In the Primera División de México , Campos played for UNAM Pumas , Atlante , Cruz Azul , UANL Tigres and Puebla . In the USA he was active in Major League Soccer for the LA Galaxy for three years and then moved to Chicago Fire . In his career he scored a very high number of goals for a goalkeeper, mostly from set pieces like penalties and free kicks. Together with his goalkeeper colleagues René Higuita and José Luis Chilavert , he was considered a " bird of paradise " because of his offensive urge and extroversion .
National team
Campos completed 129 international matches for the Mexican national soccer team and participated in the soccer world championship in 1994 , in the soccer world championship in 1998 and (but only as a substitute) in the soccer world championship in 2002 . From 2003/04 he was assistant coach to the Mexican national coach Ricardo Antonio La Volpe .

Campos drew attention to himself in the mid-1990s by wearing extremely colorful playing clothes , some of which he had designed himself.
