Luis Ignacio González (born June 28, 1980 in Mexico City ), also known by the nickname El Gonzo , is a former Mexican football player who played mainly in midfield .

career

González began his professional career at his hometown club Club Universidad Nacional , for which he made his debut in the Mexican Primera División on April 25, 1999 in a home game against CF Monterrey (2-1). A year later he was voted best young player of the year in Mexico in the 2000 summer tournament .

With the exception of the winter tournament in 2001, when González played on loan for Chivas Guadalajara , he was under contract with the Pumas until the end of the 2003/04 season , with whom he won the championship title in his last half season .

In the summer of 2004 he was sold to the relegated San Luis FC , with whom he succeeded in the immediate return to the first division in the summer of 2005.

In the 2008/09 season González ended his active career with the Petroleros de Salamanca playing in the second division .

National team

In 2000 González completed four appearances for the Mexican national team ; three of them at the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2000 .
