Diamond studs
The best Swedish female soccer player is awarded the Diamantbollen ( Swedish Diamond Ball ) every year . The prize is awarded by the Swedish Football Association and the daily newspaper Sydsvenskan . Only Swedish citizens are eligible as candidates.
The award has been made since 1990. The first winner was Eva Zeikfalvy . The record winner is Lotta Schelin (2006, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014), who was the first player to receive more than two awards, followed by Kristin Bengtsson (1994, 2004), Victoria Sandell Svensson (1998, 2003), Therese Sjögran (2007, 2010) and Hedvig Lindahl (2015, 2016), who have each received two awards so far. Älvsjö AIK and Umeå IK were the most successful clubs with four excellent players each. As the first goalkeeper , Elisabeth Leidinge was awarded in 1991 .
So far, none of the Diamantbollen winners has been named FIFA World Player of the Year .
The analog award for men's football has been given under the name Guldbollen since 1946 .
