The fate of the place has been closely tied to the rise and fall of natural gas production in the region over the past few years . Since the decline in gas production from San Alberto, there are hardly any regular jobs in the region, which also affects service providers such as restaurants.

The Ruta 29 trunk road runs through Caraparí, heading north to Palos Blancos , where it meets Ruta 11 . This leads 173 kilometers to the west and meets the Ruta 1 eight kilometers before Tarija , which from there crosses the entire Altiplano to the north and finally reaches Desaguadero on the Peruvian border via the large cities of Potosí , Oruro and El Alto .

In an easterly direction, the Ruta 29 leads to Campo Pajoso , 23 kilometers away , where it meets the Ruta 9 lowland highway . This leads from Yacuiba on the Argentine border in the south via the metropolis of Santa Cruz all the way north to the city of Guayaramerín in the Beni lowlands on the Brazilian border.

In a southerly direction, the Ruta 33 leads 169 kilometers from Caraparí to Bermejo on the Argentine border and is from there connected to the northern Argentine cities of Aguas Blancas and Pichanal via the Ruta Nacional 50 .
