Jitex Mölndal BK is a women's football club from Mölndal , a suburb of Gothenburg ( Sweden ). The club, long known as Jitex BK , was founded on January 21, 1971 and was one of the leading women's clubs in Swedish football from the 1970s to the early 1990s. The club name comes from the main sponsor of the club, the fashion house "Jitex".
history
The club had its most successful period in the 1970s and 1980s. The club was Swedish champion six times. Jitex won the trophy three times. In general, Jitex BK was the first Swedish cup winner in women's football . In the early 1990s, financial worries plagued the club. In 1993, Jitex merged with the women's football division of local rivals GAIS . From then on the club was called Jitex BK / JG 93, but had to relegate in 1997. Only in 2005 succeeded in returning to the Damallsvenskan, which was followed by direct relegation. In the 2009 season, the season winner in the south succeeded in re-advancing to the Damallsvenskan, the club then held up to the end of the 2014 season , when the women lost all 20 league games, in the top division.
After relegation, the club explicitly included its home town in the club name and renamed itself Jitex Mölndal BK . However, the success failed, the club rose after five wins this season in 26 games directly from the Elitettan . Although the team regularly became champions in the third-class Division 1 Norra Götaland in the following years , they failed in the promotion games to the second division with two defeats in 2016 to Västerås BK , 2017 to Asarums IF and 2018 to Borgeby FK .
