Footballer of the Year (Germany)
As football player of the year in Germany, one player is honored every year as the outstanding player of the season. The soccer player of the year is chosen by the members of the Association of German Sport Journalists (VDS) and honored together with the trade journal Kicker . All German players as well as foreign players who are under contract with a Bundesliga club are eligible candidates . The award has been made since 1996. Martina Voss was the first title holder. The current soccer player of 2020 is the first non-German Pernille Harder . Previously, Dzsenifer was Marozsántitle holder for three years in a row from 2017 to 2019. Marozsán was the first female footballer of the year to play for a foreign club in the year of the honor.
The most successful prizewinner is Birgit Prinz , who has been voted Footballer of the Year a total of eight times. Inka Grings and Dzsenifer Marozsán are in second place with three awards each, ahead of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg , Célia Šašić and Alexandra Popp , who were each elected twice. Grings was the youngest elected player in 1999 and Martina Voss-Tecklenburg was the oldest elected player at 33 in 2000. At ten years of age, there is the longest period of time between the first and second selection of Inka Grings for a new award. Silke Rottenberg was elected in 1998 as the only goalkeeper to date . The most successful club is 1. FFC Frankfurt , which nominated the female soccer player of the year nine times. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 Birgit Prinz was elected both German and world soccer player of the year . So far, all German female soccer players of the year are German citizens. Fatmire Bajramaj was the first non-German born awardee.
