The Öxabäck IF is a Swedish football club in Öxabäck in the municipality of Mark . The club, which at times went under the name Öxabäck / Mark IF , is best known for its women's soccer team, which has won several Swedish championships. In 1999 this had to be dissolved. The still existing men's team has only played in the lower class amateur area.

history

Öxabäcks IF was founded in 1931. In 1966, the club created the women's football department, making it one of the first teams in Sweden. When the league game began two years later in the Västergötland damfotbollsserie , she was one of the founding members and won the regional series seven times in a row until it was closed in 1974.

In October 1972 the women's team from Öxabäcks IF won the first, unofficial state championship and was able to defend the title of the now officially held championship the following year. In the following years she was regularly among the top teams and reached the finals for the championship title several times. In addition to winning the title in 1973, there were other championships in 1975, 1978, 1983 and 1987. As the reigning champion, Öxabäck IF qualified in 1988 for the newly introduced Damallsvenskan as the nationwide uniform top division. In the first season she reached the first place in the table and beat Jitex BK in the finals of the subsequent play-off round and thus became the first champion of the league. After they were able to establish themselves in the front area in the early 1990s, the team played against relegation from the middle of the decade. In 1998 the relegation was missed, so that as a result many players left the club. Due to high debt, the team announced after the end of the second division season in 1999 from the game.

In contrast to the women's team, the men's team has so far not been able to attract national attention and has mainly played in the lower-class amateur area.
