Hanna Ljungberg

Hanna Ljungberg (born January 8, 1979 in Umeå ) is a former Swedish soccer player and with 72 goals in 130 international matches, the record scorer in her country.

Career

She played for the multiple Swedish champions and European Cup winners Umeå IK and was one of the main pillars of the Swedish national team as a goal-scoring and assertive striker . In 2002 she won the " Diamantbollen " and was named soccer player of the year. The following year she was runner-up in the USA with the Swedish national team. In 2003 the Italian men's first division club AC Perugia wanted to sign Hanna Ljungberg. But Ljungberg turned down several offers from the Italians.

After a serious knee injury, she announced her retirement as an active footballer in 2009.
