Frida Ostberg
Frida Christina Östberg (born December 10, 1977 in Örnsköldsvik ) is a former Swedish soccer player . The midfielder , who was awarded the Diamantbollen in 2008 , made her debut for the Swedish national team in 2001 .
Career
Club career
Östberg started playing soccer at Hägglunds IoFk . Together with her teammate Malin Moström , she left the club in 1995 and moved to Umeå IK . After she was relegated from Damallsvenskan with the club in 1996 , she was directly promoted again the following year. Then she was one of the regulars who helped shape the club's most successful period to date with three championship titles and three cup wins . In addition, she triumphed with the club on the international stage. Both in her first win in the UEFA Women's Cup in 2003 against Fortuna Hjørring and in successfully defending her title against 1. FFC Frankfurt , she was able to enter the goalscorers list of the finals. In 2006 she left the club to join Linköpings FC , but returned to Umeå IK in 2008. In the same year she received the Guldbollen as football player of the year in Sweden and announced the end of her career. In February 2009, the Chicago Red Stars announced their commitment to the newly launched US women's professional league .
National team
Östberg made his debut on May 13, 2001 in the game against the Norwegian selection in the Swedish national jersey. In the same year she took part in the European Championship . This was followed by tournament participation in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games , the 2003 and 2007 World Championships and the 2005 European Championships . In total, she came to 78 missions for the Swedish national team, with two goals.
After the playing career
Since the end of her active playing career, Östberg has worked, among other things, as an expert on football broadcasts for the Swedish public television broadcaster SVT .
