Seger played in his youth at Gantofta IF , Rydebäcks IF and Stattena IF . In 2005 she moved to Linköpings FC in Damallsvenskan . The attacking midfielder was named Young Player of the Year in her debut year. With the club she won the Swedish Cup in the 2006 season , in the league he took third place in the table. Two years later she was even a little more successful with the team: When they won the cup again, the team ended the season as runner-up behind series champion Umeå IK . The changing of the guard took place in the following season. Already in the spring she triumphed with Linköpings FC against the competitor in the Supercupen - as the first cup winner in the history of the competition - with a goal by Jessica Landström with a 1-0 victory. Subsequently, a four-way battle for the championship title developed between the two clubs and LdB FC Malmö and Kopparbergs / Göteborg FC , which Seger's team ultimately won. With five goals each and assists she was instrumental in it.

In September 2009 Philadelphia announced that they would like to sign Seger as a first draft . She signed a three-year contract with Independence in December 2009, where she has played since April 2010. In December of that year, however, the club agreed to switch to the Western New York Flash , in return, the Philadelphia club received further draft rights .

After the end of the US season in late summer 2011, Seger moved back to Sweden and joined LdB FC Malmö to support them in the fight for the Swedish championship. In the autumn she played seven games for the Malmö club and scored three goals. After winning the title, she moved to league competitor Tyresö FF for the 2012 season . With her new club, she also won the championship title, having scored eight goals in 20 games.

In the UEFA Women's Champions League 2013/14 she reached the final with Tyresö, in which she was defeated by VfL Wolfsburg . She then signed a contract with the women of Paris Saint-Germain . In 2015, she also advanced to the European Cup final with the French , in which she was not allowed to participate due to a yellow card in the semi-final second leg - again against Wolfsburg. On July 1, 2016, she left PSG and moved to Olympique Lyon within France . Both teams faced each other in the 2016/17 UEFA Women's Champions League final, in which Seger was not used and Lyon won on penalties . Then she returned to her home country to FC Rosengård , but was not able to build on the earlier championship successes with this. In the championship it was only enough for second and third place and in the Champions League it ended in the round of 16. However, she won the Swedish Cup with Rosengård in 2017 and 2018. In 2019 she won the championship with Rosengård.

National team

Seger made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2005 . In the same year she took part in the European Championship , where she was used in three games. She was also at the 2007 World Cup in the squad of the Swedish selection. She took part with the Swedish selection at the Olympic Games in Beijing , where Sweden were eliminated in the quarter-finals. Also at the European Championship 2009 came the end in the quarter-finals.

Seger was also nominated for the 2011 World Cup . In each of the Swedes' first two games she received a yellow card , so she was suspended for the final group game against the USA . In the game against North Korea , however, she was recognized as player of the game. In the quarter-finals against the Australians she was back in the starting line-up as captain. With the 3-1 victory both the semi-finals against Japan were reached and the qualification for the Olympic Games in London was perfect. Before the semi-finals, which were lost 3-1, she injured herself warming up and could therefore not be used. On July 16, 2011, she and the team won the game for third place in the 2-1 victory over France .

Seger in the National Jersey (April 2013)

She was the captain of the Swedish national team until 2012, but after more than two years she gave up this position to Nilla Fischer and Charlotte Rohlin in order to concentrate more on football again in the future. She was on the Swedish squad for the 2012 Olympic Games . After a win against South Africa and two draws against world champions Japan and Canada , the quarter-finals were reached, in which the Swedes defeated France 2-1. After Pia Sundhage took office as the new national coach, she was reappointed captain, but shared the position with Lotta Schelin until her retirement in 2017 .

On March 6, 2013, she made her 100th international match in the 1-1 draw against China in the Algarve Cup, as did Sara Thunebro . At the end of the tournament she finished fourth with the selection team. In summer she was part of the squad at the European Championship in their own country and was used in all five games until they were eliminated in the semi-finals.

At the 2015 World Cup they played in the four games, but were eliminated with their team in the round of 16 against Germany . As a result, the Swedes also missed direct qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games , but were able to catch up at the qualifying tournament in March 2016. She scored the goal to win 1-0 in the second game against Switzerland , so that after the 1-0 in the first game against Norway a draw against the Netherlands in the last game was enough.

At the Olympic Games, the Swedes made it to the quarter-finals as one of the two best thirds in the group, but then eliminated defending champions USA and then hosts Brazil on penalties . But in the final they lost again to Germany.

Shortly after the Olympic Games , she and her team qualified for the 2017 European Women's Football Championship , where they met Germany again in their first game and played for the first time in a draw against the German team. After a victory against Russia , they lost to Italy , but reached the quarter-finals. Here the Swedes lost against hosts Netherlands , which ultimately won the tournament for the first time.

In 2018 she won the Algarve Cup with her team and qualified for the 2019 World Cup in France. On May 16, 2019, she was also nominated for the World Cup . At the World Cup, she was used as captain in all seven games. As group runner-up they reached the knockout round, where they won 1-0 against Canada in the round of 16 . In the quarter-finals, the Swedes won a competitive game against the German team after 24 years and thus qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games . In the semifinals they were defeated by European champions Netherlands after extra time, but then won the game for third place against England . In this game she was the second Swedish player after Therese Sjögran for the 200th time for the Swedish team.
