Sara Thunebro (born April 26, 1979 in Strängnäs ) is a Swedish football player.

Career

Sara Thunebro started playing soccer at the age of six. Their first club was IK Viljan. At the age of 16 she moved to Gideonsberg Västerås. In 1999, when she moved to Djurgårdens IF, she made the leap to Damallsvenskan , the top division in Swedish women's football. After three seasons she switched to local rivals Älvsjö AIK, who merged with Djurgårdens IF to Djurgårdens IF / Älvsjö in 2003. Thunebro became champions for the first time in the very first season. A year later the double was retracted. At the turn of the season 2009/10 she signed a contract with 1. FFC Frankfurt , with which she won the German Cup in 2011. On March 28, 2013, she terminated her contract with Frankfurt early because she did not get enough working hours. Shortly afterwards, the full-back signed with the reigning Swedish champions Tyresö FF . For the 2014 season she moved to the new league Eskilstuna United .

Thunebro at the 2011 World Cup

On January 30, 2004, she made her debut in the national team at the four-nation tournament in a 3-0 draw against the USA. With the national team she took part in the 2007 World Cup in China , the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2009 European Championship finals . At 1.65 m she was the smallest player in the Swedish squad for the 2011 World Cup , for which she was also nominated. She was in the starting eleven in all three preliminary round matches and reached the quarterfinals with her team unbeaten, where they met the Australians . Here, too, Thunebro was back in the starting line-up and with the 3-1 victory both the semi-finals against Japan and the qualification for the Olympic Games in London were reached . On July 16, 2011, she and the team won the game for third place in the 2-1 victory over France . Thunebro was in the Swedish squad for the 2012 Olympic Games , in which the Swedish team lost their World Cup revenge against France in the quarter-finals.

On March 6, 2013, she made her 100th international match in the 1-1 draw against China in the Algarve Cup, as did Caroline Seger, and scored the goal to equalize 1-1.

She was in the squad for the 2013 European Championship finals and was used in all five games until they were eliminated in the semi-finals. In May 2015 she was nominated for the 2015 World Cup. She was only substituted on in the last group game against Australia 15 minutes before the end of the game and was eliminated with her team in the round of 16 against Germany .
