Inner London is a term used for administrative purposes to refer to the central areas of Greater London .

Inner London includes the following boroughs: Camden , City of London , City of Westminster , Greenwich , Hackney , Hammersmith and Fulham , Islington , Kensington and Chelsea , Lambeth , Lewisham , Southwark , Tower Hamlets , Wandsworth . According to an estimate from 2009, 3,061,000 people live in this area.

These boroughs formed the old County of London from 1889 to 1965 , until the founding of the administrative area Greater London .

The UK National Statistical Office also uses this term but has shifted the boundaries a bit. It is one of Haringey and Newham also to Inner London, but not Greenwich . Even Eurostat , the European statistics agency , uses this classification.
