Richmond Park
Richmond Park is the largest of the Royal Parks in London, covering an area of 10 km² . It is located in the boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Kingston upon Thames in south-west London .
Originally, Richmond Park was King Edward I's deer hunting area , but today it is the largest walled park in Europe in an urban area. Main attractions are packs of 650 red deer and fallow deer roaming free in the park, as well as the Isabella Plantation , an area with numerous rare plant species. To the north-west of the park is King Henry VIII's Mound , from where you have an unobstructed view of St Paul's Cathedral , 16 kilometers away . Richmond Park is classified as an Area of High Scientific Interest, a Nature Reserve and a Stag Beetle Sanctuary.
The Beverley Brook flows through the park from south to north. Several streets cross the park; however, these may only be driven on in daylight and at a maximum speed of 20 mph (32 km / h ). The entire park is surrounded by a high wall with several gates. The buildings in the park include the White Lodge , once a hunting lodge for King George II and now the seat of the Royal Ballet School .
