The Scottish Hockey Union (SHU) is the national hockey federation in Scotland . She is a member of the World Hockey Federation FIH and the European Hockey Federation . England and Wales have their own associations, and Northern Ireland forms a joint association with the Republic of Ireland .

organization

The Scottish Hockey Union organizes men's and women's hockey in Scotland. A large number of competitions for adults and young people are organized, both in the field and in the hall.

The Scottish national teams take part in the international matches of the EHF and the FIH:

history

The association was formed in 1989 from the merger of the previously separate associations for women and men, the Scottish Women's Hockey Association (SWHA) and the Scottish Hockey Association (SHA) . Both associations were founded in 1900. The first international matches took place in 1902 between the four British federations (England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland) and in 1908 these federations played the first Olympic hockey tournament together with Germany and France .

Like the other three British associations, the SHA refused to join the FIH, which was founded in 1924. The women's association SWHA was one of the founding members of the world association for women IFWHA ( International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations ) in 1927 . The men's association was one of the founding members of the European Hockey Federation in 1969 and joined the FIH in 1970. In 1982, FIH and IFWHA merged, and in 1989, SHA and SWHA.
