history

Development up to the Middle Ages

The oldest evidence of human civilization found in today's area of Bolandens is a settlement of the band ceramists at Weierhof, whose culture today dates back to the period between 5500 and 4900 BC. Is set. A menhir , which marked a crossroads in what is now the Weierhof area , is also called a "chicken stone".

Neu-Bolanden castle ruins, general view

The beginning of the 12th century built Werner I. of Bolanden on the present territory of Bolanderhofs the castle Altenbolanden . In addition, in 1120 he founded the house monastery "Cell Bolanden", which was renamed in 1160 to today's name Kloster Hane . This was evidenced by the deed of foundation of the "cella bonlande" issued by the Bishop of Mainz, Adalbert I. in 1129.

In the 13th century , the Neu-Bolanden Castle was built by the Reichsministeriale von Bolanden, which has since been the ancestral seat of the von Bolanden family. The village of Bolanden and its office of the same name were first mentioned in a document in 1333, and in 1359 it became a fiefdom of the Electorate of the Palatinate . The noble family von Bolanden died out in the 14th century .

Modern times

Bolanden was completely destroyed twice in a row in the Thirty Years' War and then in the Palatinate War of Succession , which in 1689 also led to the final end of Bolanden Castle. In view of the decline in population - in 1647 only 42 people lived in the entire Bolanden office (in addition to Bolanden also Marnheim, Dreisen and Froschauer Hof) - Elector Karl Ludwig von der Pfalz allowed the Mennonites, who had been expelled from Switzerland, to resettle on the Weierhof in 1664. In 1706 the Electoral Palatinate exchanged Bolanden for Nassau-Weilburg , which placed the municipality under the rule of Kirchheim and Stauf .

From 1798 to 1814 Bolanden belonged to the canton of Kirchheim within the French department of Donnersberg and was the seat of its own mairie there . At the Congress of Vienna , the Palatinate on the left bank of the Rhine fell to Austria in 1815 and to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of an exchange contract . From 1818 to 1862 Bolanden belonged to the Land Commissioner Kirchheim - later Kirchhheimbolanden ; from this the district office of Kirchhheimbolanden emerged.

From 1939 the place was part of the Kirchheimbolanden district . After the Second World War , Bolanden became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , Bolanden moved to the newly formed Donnersbergkreis in 1969 ; three years later, the community was incorporated into the also newly created community of Kirchheimbolanden .

religion

Until the end of 2015, there was a Catholic parish in Bolanden, which belonged to the Kirchheimbolanden parish community and to which the now profaned church in Marnheim belonged as a branch. Since 2016 the parish has belonged to the parish of St. Anna , which has its seat in Kirchheimbolanden.
