history

In October of the year 900 the place was first mentioned in the Fulda document book as Chrichesfeld . During the time of the tribal duchies, the place belonged to the Duchy of Franconia . From 1579, Kriegsfeld belonged to the Electoral Palatinate , after the local rule had previously been divided. According to the Handbook of Historic Places , Kriegsfeld (next to Mörsfeld ) is described as one of the oldest settlements in the area. Around the year 1100 the old Franconian district constitution was dissolved. Thereafter, a number of independent and hereditary duchies , margraves , wild counties , Rhine counties and rough counties were formed . What you previously held as a fiefdom or office, you now took ownership.

With 24 other villages to the right and left of the Alsenz , Kriegsfeld belonged to the area that the Raugrafen appropriated. For around 200 years, Kriegsfeld belonged to the Raugrafen as an undivided place. The division into two parts, which began in the 13th century, did not end until 1579. By pledging and selling one half of Kriegsfeld in 1376 became the property of the Counts of Bolanden and the Elector Ruprecht . The other half was given to Elector Friedrich I in 1457. In 1579, the whole of Kriegsfeld belonged to the Electoral Palatinate and was subordinated to the Erbes-Büdesheim Office , Oberamt Alzey . It is not known how the two parts of Kriegsfeld were delimited from one another.

After a relatively quiet period, Kriegsfeld was hit hard during the French Revolutionary Wars in the late 18th century . Together with other municipalities in the area, it was assigned to the Donnersberg department in 1798 .

From 1798 to 1814, when the Palatinate was part of the French Republic (until 1804) and then part of the Napoleonic Empire , Kriegsfeld was incorporated into the canton of Kirchheim and was the seat of its own Mairie . In 1815 the community had a total of 826 inhabitants. In the same year it was added to Austria . Just one year later, the place, like the entire Palatinate, changed to the Kingdom of Bavaria . From 1818 to 1862, Kriegsfeld belonged to the Kirchheim Land Commissioner - later to Kirchhheimbolanden ; from this the district office of Kirchhheimbolanden emerged.

From 1939 the place was part of the Kirchheimbolanden district . After World War II , Kriegsfeld became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone . In the course of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , in 1969, Kriegsfeld moved to the newly formed Donnersbergkreis ; three years later, the community was incorporated into the also newly created community of Kirchheimbolanden . In 2000, Kriegsfeld celebrated its 1100th anniversary.

coat of arms

War field coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold, a knight in blue armor , his left hand supported on his hip, holding a green wreath in his right hand."

The approval was given on March 15, 1926 by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior in Munich .

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms is based on the war field seal of 1622. It represents a warrior at the time of the seal production as a folk etymological interpretation of the place name. The wreath provided with thorns on the outside was also interpreted as a pitch wreath . The color scheme is influenced by Hupp and is arbitrary.

An alternative interpretation of the war field court seal is that it shows a miner in leather armor with a so-called " ass leather " and a miner's lamp in hand. In the 17th and 18th centuries there was an intensive mining of mercury on the Spitzenberg near Kriegsfeld (numerous tunnel mouth holes are still freely accessible today), so Kriegsfeld was practically a mining community.
