It belongs to the municipality of Kirchheimbolanden , within which it is the fifth smallest in terms of population and the second smallest in terms of area. In terms of area , Oberwiesen is one of the smallest communities in Germany.

geography

location

Oberwiesen is located in the North Palatinate Uplands within the Bürgerwald sub-area on the border between the Donnersbergkreis and the Alzey-Worms district and, consequently, on the border between the Palatinate and Rheinhessen . The place is about four kilometers northwest of the district town of Kirchheimbolanden and eight kilometers north of Donnersberg . Neighboring communities are - clockwise - Offenheim , Orbis , Kirchheimbolanden and Kriegsfeld . The 358 meter high Kappelberg stretches to the northeast, but already beyond the municipal marker .

Waters

The Wiesbach runs right through the community . The Ambach coming from the right forms the border to Orbis as far as possible and the Kernbach coming from the left forms the border to Kirchheimbolanden the last meters before it flows into it. In the middle of the settlement area, the Wörlebach flows into the Wiesbach from the left .

history

middle Ages

Historical sources suggest that the settlement began around 1200, caused by the Lords of Morschheim . The Morschheimers were vassals of Count Bolanden . After financial problems, their rule passed to the Nassau-Weilburg line of the House of Nassau.

Other sources claim that the area around today's Oberwiesen was settled later than other areas. The origin of the village is not known, it is believed that a Wisha mentioned in connection with the Stauf rule was today's Oberwiesen. The village probably belonged to the rulership in the 14th century, but was probably passed on as a fief .

1307 received the eusserthal abbey , prompted by Wirich of Dhaun, a ground rent of his farm at Wihsen . In 1351 the Bruvelwiese zu Oberwizzen , which belonged to the knight Sybilmann Monphorn von Flomborn , went to the Alzey monastery. From 1370 Oberwiesen was a fiefdom of the Lords Heinrich von Wißen and Heune von Morschheim. After this line died out, the house of Nassau passed the place on to Philipp Ludwig von Steinkallenfels , who received the righteous and tithe . After the Steinkallenfelsers died out, it fell back to Nassau and in 1750 the Lords of Sturmfelden bought it to use it as a leasable bailiwick of the Electoral Palatinate .

Modern times

In 1794 the left bank of the Rhine was occupied in the First Coalition War. From 1798 to 1814 Oberwiesen belonged to the canton of Kirchheim (also called canton Kirchheimbolanden ) in the Donnersberg department and was subordinate to the Mairie Orbis . In 1815 the place had a total of 338 inhabitants.

Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna , the area first came to Austria in June 1815 and was ceded to the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1816 on the basis of a state treaty . Under the Bavarian administration, Oberwiesen belonged to the Land Commissioner Kirchheim im Rheinkreis from 1817 , from 1862 to the Kirchheimbolanden district office and from 1939 to the Kirchheimbolanden district .

After the Second World War , the municipality of Oberwiesen within the French occupation zone became part of the Palatinate administrative district in the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate . In the course of the first administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate , the place changed to the newly formed Donnersbergkreis on June 7, 1969 . Three years later, the community was incorporated into the also newly created community of Kirchheimbolanden .
