About this picture

Gonbach is a municipality in the Donnersbergkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Winnweiler community .

geography

Gonbach is located in Rhineland-Palatinate in the Donnersbergkreis and there in the North Palatinate Uplands east of the Alsenz river and 1 km above Münchweiler on a steep hill at a height of 290  m .

history

Barrows prove that Celts already settled in the area . In 1019 the first documentary mention was made as "Nieder-" and "Oberganenbach". From the Middle Ages until 1972, Gonbach was administered by the larger neighboring municipality of Münchweiler and also shares the history of this place.

Gonbach fell from Liningian property in 1705, together with Münchweiler, as a dowry to Count Ferdinand Andreas von Wiser (1677–1751), whose wife was a born Countess von Leinigen. The Counts of Wiser remained the local rulers until the German area on the left bank of the Rhine fell to France in 1798 . In 1816 the village became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria , from 1946 to Rhineland-Palatinate . In 1972 it was assigned to the Winnweiler community and received its own local mayor . The Counts of Wiser - who still live at Wiser Castle in Hirschberg on Bergstrasse - are particularly significant for Gonbach, as the colors blue / gold and the star split in those colors have been transferred from their family coat of arms to the Gonbach local coat of arms.

With the establishment of a craftsmen's guild in 1724, Count Ferdinand Andreas von Wiser promoted the economic development of the village, especially the linen weaving , as indicated by the shuttle in the municipal coat of arms .
