history

In 1704, Count Ferdinand Andreas von Wiser zu Leutershausen acquired the Bettendorff property, which was destroyed in 1688. Wiser Castle was built on the grounds of this noble court in 1710 by the Vorarlberg master builder Johann Jakob Rischer . The facade is in the southern Italian style of the time, a transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque .

In 1737 the counts built a Loreto chapel with the miraculous image of the " Black Madonna of Leutershausen" in the courtyard , which was transferred to the newly built parish and pilgrimage church of St. Johannes Baptist (Leutershausen) in 1907 .

The castle garden with sculptures is located within the high castle walls .

Todays use

The castle is privately owned by the Counts of Wiser and is inhabited. The palace and palace gardens cannot be visited. Every year on the Assumption of Mary , in mid-August, there is a pilgrimage with a procession of lights through the palace gardens, which ends in the palace courtyard in front of the chapel.
