Greinberg ring wall

The Greinberg ring wall , formerly known as the Monbrunn ring wall or also Römerschanze , are the remains of a prehistoric Celtic ring wall system at a height of about 430 m around the summit of the 452 m high Greinberg above the Main Valley , 1200 meters east of the church in Breitendiel, a current district of Miltenberg in Miltenberg district in Bavaria .

On the Greinberg, which is strategically located above the Main Valley, the Celts built a circular rampart from which a rampart about three kilometers long and remains of a moat have been preserved. With the advancement of the Odenwald Limes and the establishment of the wet Main Limes , the area became Roman dominion. Here the Romans paid homage to the god Mercury in two temples within the Celtic complex. Finds are in the Museum Stadt Miltenberg .
