Dallau Castle in Dallau, a district of the Elztal community in the Neckar-Odenwald district in northern Baden-Württemberg , goes back to a former moated castle of the Teutonic Order , which was built in the middle of the 15th century on the site of a previous building and in the 16th century. Century was significantly rebuilt. The fortifications and most of the buildings in the complex were demolished in the 18th century, so that since then the complex has essentially only consisted of the former palace and a remaining tower.

Around 1300 a deep castle was founded in Dallau as the manor of the then local lords of Dallau, the lords of Heinriet . This first castle consisted only of a residential tower , which was surrounded by a circular wall. The Teutonic Order acquired half of the town and the entire castle in 1416. After the settlement of outstanding issues on control of the Vorburgbereichs the German Order has the castle extensively expanded in the period from 1438 to 1451, where instead of the old residential tower today Palas with gables stepped, of the south and west and the old Ring wall was built. The Palas was the main building of the surrounded by a 20 meter-wide moat, partially double-walled and equipped with four corner towers and gate construction system, which is still an also walled and beyond the moat to the west from the village only through a gate tower to reach Vorburg different with Farm buildings. In the Peasants' War in 1525, the rebels captured the castle, but it was not damaged. In 1529/30 the castle was rebuilt again. a. A multi-storey kitchen extension was added to the north gable of the palace. In 1668 the plant came to the Electoral Palatinate , where it was not needed as an administrative seat and was only poorly maintained. The kitchen extension was demolished around 1700. In 1736 practically the entire remaining building stock with the exception of the tithe barn in the outer bailey was described as dilapidated. In 1740 some repairs took place, including a. the tower that is still preserved today received a new roof. In 1774 the defensive walls and most of the castle's buildings, with the exception of the hall, a tower and the tithe barn, had already been torn down and the moat was filled. In 1974 the plant came into the possession of the municipality. At that time, the first archaeological excavations to research the original substance took place on the occasion of a new building in the neighborhood. Further investigations, a comprehensive building survey and finally a renovation in line with listed buildings followed from 1989. The renovation of the building was completed in 1995. Today, Dallau Castle is used in particular for cultural purposes.
