ROBEX

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Regional Operational Meteorological Bulletin Exchange (ROBEX) scheme is a standard for the exchange and processing of weather messages that have an operational influence on flight operations (e.g. ensuring that a pilot chooses a different flight route). Originally only defined for the exchange of METAR , ROBEX was soon expanded to include specifications for the exchange of AIREP and TAF messages. These alphanumeric OPMET messages are issued, for example, by weather stations or a VAAC ( originating tributary offices ) and collected by ROBEX centers ( bulletin compiling centers ). The ROBEX centers either forward the messages directly (severe weather warnings) or compile them into their own bulletins and then forward them. Recipients are, for example, flight information services or air traffic control . The ROBEX scheme was originally defined in 1972 and has been in use since 1974 mainly in the Asia-Pacific region (ICAO regions "ASIA / PAC" and "MID").
