From the former Hohenriet Castle (the name means cleared height ) only remains of the wall at the eastern end of the forecourt, on the edge of the steeply sloping mountain towards the Buchbach, have been preserved. The castle was first mentioned in 1140 and destroyed in 1528.

Domination

The name Heinriet was named in 1139 with the naming of a Helferich de Hehenried in the entourage of King Conrad III. first mentioned in a document. The lords of Hohenriet Castle are mentioned several times in the 12th and 13th centuries and bear the same coat of arms as the Hacken zu Hoheneck from Hoheneck and the Hummel von Lichtenberg from Lichtenberg Castle .

In the first half of the 13th century Gerung von Heinriet was married to Elisabeth von Steinheim , who later became the founder and benefactress of the Mariental Monastery in Steinheim an der Murr . A nun from this monastery was named Burcsint von Heinriet.

In addition to their ancestral seat, the von Heinriet gentlemen also had other possessions, for example they founded the castle in Dallau around 1300 , where they also exercised local authority. In 1327 Konrad von Heinrieth also acquired the castle and town of Neudenau from Konrad von Weinsberg . In 1330, Count Nicolaus von Löwenstein acquired half of the castle and village of Unterheinrieth. After numerous sales and mortgages, the Counts of Löwenstein came into the possession of the entire rule in 1364.

In the period that followed, the lords of Heinriet also sold all their foreign possessions, so that they were completely without possessions in 1456 before the last descendant, Philipp von Heinriet, died in 1462.
